' 1 BUSINESS IS FAIR. BROKEN HILLS FIRM. Despite slackness in banks and in some ! New Zealand industrials, business on the | Auckland Stock Exchange keeps up well. A good deal ot support comes from Australian issues, for which a firm demand continues. Ac this morning's call Broken Hills were in keen demand, the market resting between £3 11/0 and £3 13/. Woohrorths (Sydney) were a little easier, with quotations from £5 7/6 to £o 9/, and buyers came back for West Australians j ■with the reduced offer of £j 2/0. Banks were very quiet. Mew Zealands had business unchanged at £2 5/3, with a subsequent market between £2 5/ and £2 5/6. Xew Zealand Insurances were J ruin, with buyers at £3 3/ and no sellers. Farmers' Trading had their lirst sale since being quoted as £1 shares, a parcel being placed at £1 0/3. Bycrofts were in keen demand, and a buyer moved up to !)/ without interesting holders. Coal shares were wanted. A buyer came ; in for Kaitangatas at £1 1/, and buyers for Pukeiniroa moved up 3d, to £1 4/3. Government stocks were unchanged. Broken Hills Go Higher. There was a noticeable pick-up in business during the morning, and several Australian industrials registered advances at noon. Broken Hills continued to attract a strong demand, and both issues wont to new peaks, followed by upward adjustments ip buyers' limits. The fully pauis were still in request at the revised rigure, 1/6 above yesterday's price, and the contributings had latest buyers at £2 8/3 and no scrip on offer. Selfridges, continuing their buoyant trend, gained another 6d, with more buyers only 3d behind. These were the high lights of the market. A reverse movement was shown by Woolworths (Sydney), losing 1/0, and settling between £5 (i/G and £5 S/6. New Zealand industrials moved unevenly. Pukemiros advanced 1/4 on last sales, and Xcw Zealand Refrigerating eontributtings stepped up (id, but Peters Ice lost ]/, and Consolidated Brie!; just held their ground, with more still t > 33 had at the market rate.
