NEW LEGISLATION.
GOVERNMENT policy. RECESS PREPARATIONS. HOUSE 1C RESUME ON JULY 21 (By Telegrnrh-—Parliamentary Reporter.* WELLINGTON, Tuesday. An important statement regarding the future policy measures of tlie Government was made in the House of Representatives to-night by the Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, who also stated that the session of Parliament would resume on July 21 next. "During the recess," said the Prime Minister, "it is the intention of the Government to prepare legislation providing for: — (1) The readjustment of mortgages. (2) The restoration of wage cuts, to date from July 1. (3) The restoration of Public Service salary cuts, to date from July 1, and (4) The increase of pensions and the payment of pensions to invalids, to date from July 1. "In addition, it is Intended (a) to make preparation through the Labour Department for the organisation of farm labour under reasonable conditions and at fair rates of pay; (b) to speed up a building programme, including housing and public buildings; (c) to speed up other public works of national importance, and (d) to prepare the Budget for presentation as early as possible after the House reassembles.
"It is further intended during the recess to take whatever steps may be necessary to prevent unfair rises of prices in order that the people may not be exploited. Every effort will also.be made to advance the establishment of new industries, and during the next part of the session a bill will be introduced for the purpose of assisting, industry generally to secure greater efficiency and co-ordination, thus enabling it to compete fairly with overseas products."
