REOPENING QUESTION.
DEPUTATION TO MAYOR. MEETING Or COMMITTEE. As the result of a deputation wfiieti waited upoji the Mayor-. (;Mr. ErnestDavis), a'meeting of the Metropolitan , Relief , Committee will be to discuss, the reopening'., of .l-. the- meat <lepot in Auckland. The deputation consisted of Mrs. Mar. tinoyieh and. • Messrs.- J. EcUvards, Kennedy, Broivn and 'Garrard.' There were also present to meet the deputation Miss E. Melville, the Rev. T. Halliday and Mr. W. 'Slaughter, officer in charge of the Labour.Department. . Mrs. Martinovich also raised the question of the inadequacy of the relief measures and the" sustenance raition for women. She said tlie - present sustenance rate for women was 10/ a week when at home, and if living away, 10/ a week plus 4/ a week for room rent. She contended that it was not enough for a woman to live on, and said that women should receive the same as men —47/ a week, whether they were living at home or not. Miss Melville pointed out that it was very hard to get work for women day by clay. In replying to the- deputation the Mayor said he would call a special meeting of the Metropolitan Relief Committee. As far as the representation regarding sustenance for women was concerned he would bring it to the notice of the relevant authorities.
