SOCIETY'S APPEAL.
f The results of the joint street collection a for the Community Sunshine Association ) and the Society for the Protection of - Women and Children are gratify- ! ing to the latter society, as its share of i' this appeal to the public will be only just t over £100, one-third of the takings in I 'the street in the city area on Friday. j The society's work for those in trouble , is maintained by voluntary contributions, and the committee wonders if the public realises that thousands of people in acute • distress and desperation come to the office, " which is open daily, for the free assistance J and legal help which is given. In no case ? ip- any charge made, and the troubles conf fided to the officers are treated as strictly confidential, thus making it impossible to ' use these distressing facts by which to i cbtain moral and financial support. Much better results from the street collection 1 were hoped for this year, in view of 3 improved economic conditions, and if the s society is to carry on, some way will 1 have to be found to justify to the public g its claim for much greater support. Sincere gratitude is expressed to those who , contributed and to all those helpers who 1 gavel, of their time and energy for the benefit of the distressed. o
