SPY SCARE.
SINGAPORE SECRETS. Roundup of Japanese and Germans. STRINGENT RESTRICTIONS. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 18. The Sun-Herald news service says Japanese and Germans rounded up at Singapore are attending police headquarters in connection with the new anti-espionage drive at the naval base. Control of aliens has been transferred from the immigration authorities to special police. All aliens must notify their movements. Spies have been particularly busy, resulting in passage of a new Official Secrets Act which heavily penalises anyone for collecting or passing on information useful to foreign Powers or to an enemy. Photographing and sketching are banned in prohibited places. Tourists are not allowed to photograph from ships in the harbour.
