AUCKLAND Y.W.C.A.
SPECIAL JUBILEE APPEAIi. ,The Y.W.C.A. will shortly celebrate its jubilee. The scope of the association covers three main divisions. Firstly, constructive informal education; secondly, the hostel cafeteria and lounge service, which is available to all. The third division of the association's work is harder to define and yet is of equal importance with the other two. "Welfare work" is not a good term, but it at least covers tho numerous inquiries, investigations, words of advice and helpful action which all members of the staff are called upon to undertake, give and do during their periods on duty, r The maintenance of- the association during the years of the depression taxed its resources to the utmost. Revenue was reduced and subscriptions curtailed, while responsibilities peculiar to a time of widespread distress and unemployment had to be met. Thus additional expenses .imposed on a rapidly-decreatiißg income made it necessary to work, on a batik overdraft for current expenditure as Svell as to allow interest payments to stand over. It is tlie hope of the, directors to celebfate tnc jubilee free from debt, arid to this end a finance, campaign was launched last year. However, a further, £1500 is needed before their hopes can be realised, ■ A canvass of the city is boing made at the present time, and the Y.W.C.A. will welcome donations from interested friends as expressions of. their concern for the welfare of girls and young women.
