EAST COAST RAILWAY.
RESUMPTION OF WORK. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. The announcement of plana for the immediate resumption of construction work on the Napier-Gisborne railway caused some concern in Gisborne owing to the possibility of the section Napier to Wairoa only being the first taken in hand. The Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Scmple, states that the whole railway is being taken in hand, though it is eommonsense to concentrate on the section to Wairoa, which can be brought to the operating stage. However, work is simultaneously going on elsewhere. As the necessary gear has been all sold some was on order from England. Other equipment, which can be obtained quickly only from America, is also on order.
