SCHEME REJECTED.

BUTTER EQUALISATION. Tasmanian dairy farmers by a large majority recently decreed that the Australian butter equalisation scheme shall not remain in operation in Tasmania after May 1 next. Consequently; the Dairy Products Act, which governs the scheme, will go out of existence as from that date, and open competition on the local market will follow. The Government decided recently to allow dairymen to vote for or against the continuance of the scheme, and when the poll was declared it was revealed that less than 50 per cent of the dairymen exercised their right. The vote was as follows:—tor continuance, 1241; against 1088; informal. 8; total voters, 3237. There are almost SOOO dairymen eligible to vote.
