NEGLIGENT DRIVING CHARGE. FAINTS ON LEAVING DOCK. ~ (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ;. WELLINGTON, Monday. A plea of. not guilty was entered by Owen Lester Sievers Jarrett, a taxi driver, when charged before Mr. Justice Blair and a jury in the Wellington Supreme Court with negligently driving a motor car thereby causing the deaths of Lillias Ellen Lowery and Charles Mildenhall at Lower Hutt on January 18. It was alleged by the Crown that a collision between a taxi and a car driven by Mrs. Lowery in which Mildenhall was a paesenger, was due to Jarrett's excessive speed. The defence claimed that the accident was caused by Mrs. Lowery making a sharp turn without seeing the taxi approaching.
The jury found accused not guilty and he was discharged. Jarrett fainted as he left the dock.
