MILK POOL.
COMING SOON.
PRODUCER'S VIEW.
j SILENCE OF COUNCIL. MORE INFORMATION WANTED. "Within six months you will not be selling milk to any particular vendor, but to the Auckland Milk Council. You may take that as a fact." This statement was made by Mr. A. C. Trousdale, a member of the Milk Council, at the annual meeting of the Auckland Whole Milk Producers' Association to-day, when the association was discussing tnu Milk Council's recent proposals for a milk pool.
A complaint was made that the Milk Council had ignored the association's repeated requests for information about the proposed pool.
"Undoubtedly the Mil): Council is in favour of pooling the milk supply, a proposal that has caused a lot of feeling," said Mr. Davenport, the retiring president of the association. "The majority of this association is in favour of pooling, but producers on the North Shore and in Tamaki and in Mount Roskill, where many are producer-vendors, are opposed to it. Pooling would certainly simplify the work of the council and the checking of the supply, but, until a definite plan is brought forward, the producers are naturally wary. The association has repeatedly asked the Milk Council for figures showing how much milk comes into the city, how much is available at the farm gates, and how much is required. Had those figures been supplied, there would have been less opposition to the pool scheme." "It must be said, however, that the standard of milk has improved," added Mr. Davenport. "Although they have been put to considerable expense, the producers will reap the benefit, as more milk will bo sold as fresh, whereas in the past the vendors have had to pasteurise much of the milk because it would not keep." Mr. Trousdale said the figures for which the association had asked were available. When later the question was raised of appointing a committee of members who supplied to different vendors, Mr. Trousdale said that this matter need not concern the association, as the pooling of all milk would come in Auckland within six months.
