H.M.S. ACHILLES.
DIOMEDE'S SUCCESSOR. SERVICE IN NEW ZEALAND. OFFICERS APPOINTED. H.M.S. Achilles, which is to replace H.M.S. Diomede on the New Zealand station, was commissioned on March 31 by Captain Irvine Gordon Glennie, R.N. The appointments of Captain Glennie and of his principal officers in the New j Zealand Division of the Royal Navy | were gazetted this week, all to date J March 31. j The executive officers of H.M.S. i Achilles are as follow: — j Commander Stuart H. Paton. [ Paymaster-Commander E. S. Burton. I Lieutenant-Commander F. B. Lloyd! (navigating), G. R. M. Robertson and D. j L. Johnston (gunnery). Lieutenants R. F. Jennings, T. P. | Coode (Flight Lieutenant R.A.F.), A. J. j Dent (torpedo officer), K. W. Michell, J. E. Smallwood (for o. and met. duties) , and K. H. J. L. Pliibbs. Paymaster-Lieutenant H. F. C. Hala-1 han. , Sub-Lieutenant G. H. H. Culme-Sey-mour. . Acting Paymaster Sub-Lieutenant H. R. Butchers. Sub-Lieutenant G. H. H. CulmeSeymour, of. H.M.S. Achilles (states th 6 "Dominion"), is a cousin of Lieutenant ; Sir Michael Culme-Se.ymour, Bt., R.N., I who succeeded his father, the late ViceI Admiral Sir Michael Culme-Seymour, | fourth baronet, in 1925. The family lias a great record of service in the Royal Na*vy. There have been four generations running of Admirals Sir Michael Culme-Seymour, and all four officers i have flown their flags in sea-going ships. The late Vice-Admiral Sir Michael Culme-Seymour, who was Second Sea Lord at the time of his death on April 2, 1925, commanded a subdivision of battleships in the First Division led by the late Vice-Admiral Sir Martin Jerram at the Battle of Jutland, and his ship was, therefore, third in the battle line.
The warrant officers appointed to H.M.S. Achilles are as follow: —Mr. W. L. Furmston, schoolmaster (C.W.0.); Mr. D. A. Holds worth, gunner; Mr. E. E. Richards, M.V.0., gunner; Mr. G. R. Davis-Goff, gunner (T), Royal Navy (New Zealand Division), late of H.M.S. Diomede; Mr. R. C. I'earce, actingwarrant shipwright; Mr. ,T. Teague, warrant engineer; Mr. W. H. Skinner, acting-warrant electrician.
