AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
The Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club opened its 3936 series of winter competitions at the Outer Domain under the most unfavourable weather conditions. Rain, hail and a hurricane wind held up the opening eveni: for over twenty minutes. Eventually the president, Mr. W. Morton, was able to welcome those present and to declare the winter season opened, and the sprint was decided under difficulty. There was also delay in running off the steeplechase, and the event was contested during heavy rain and hail. Officials for the day were Messrs. T. Kerr, W. Stewart, J. Turnbull, P. K. Ness (judges) ; W. Miller (timekeeper), W. Morton (starter) antl H. T. J. McNeil (hon. secretary). Results: — 75 Yards Handicap.—Pinal: J. B. Prendergast, syds, 1; C. P. Clegg, 6yds, 2; J. Dunn, SJyds, 3. 3000 Yards Steeplechase.—H. T. J. McNiel (60s), 10.40, 1; J. Dunn (30s), 10.45 1-5, 2; A. G. Hill (scr) and H. Hustler (40s), 10.51, dead-heat, 3. Putting 161b Shot.—J. Dunn, 35ft lin, 1; J. W. Turnbull, 34ft sJin, 2; C. P. Clegg, 33ft lOin, 3. Throwing the Discus. —J. W. Turnbull, 107 ft Bin, 1; F. J. Bryan and C. H. Taylor, 102 ft 3:n, dead-heat, 2. Seventeen competed. OLD GRAMMARIANS' CLUB. The following are the results of the competitions conducted by the Old Grammarians Club in the weekly points meetings throughout the 1035-36 season :— Sprints Cup.—Brown antl Whitten (24) 1, Roberta (22) 3. Distances Cup.—Johnston (27) 1, Chappell (211 2, Wylie (18J) 3. Field Events Cup.—Wy.lie (50) 1, White (44) 2, Mead (33) 3. These trophies will be presented at the annual prize-giving dance on May 0.
