CAMBRIDGE TROTS.
KING'S PLAY SCORES.
Home Brew and Tryment
Opening Winners. The winter meeting of the Cambridge Trotting Club is being held at Cambridge this afternoon in very bad weather. There is a poor attendance and the course is heavy. The Opening Event. Proceedings commenced with the Introductory' Handicap, for which Our Peggy, Claudelands, Worthy Boy, Hori Bingen and Agnes Bingen were scratched. Hearsay was favourite; while Great Jewel, Home Brew and Stargum were next best supported. Passing the stands Great Jewel was in charge from Hearsay, Golden Knight, Home Brew (wlio was on the outside), Glostcr and Staigum. Along the back the lastnamed had run to the front, being attended by Hearsay and Home Brew, with a big gap back to Great Jewel, Dolly Rose, Golden Kniglit and Gloster. There was not much "between Stargum, Hearsay and Home Brew when they came into line, Golden Knight being the most prominent of the others. An interesting race ensued, Home Brew doing best to win by a length and a half from Hearsay, who beat Stargum by eight lengths. Then followed Golden Knight, Great Jewel, Native Fashion and Superfine. Wins With Flat Tyre. The scratching of Prince Etawali, Silk Cord and Parochial reduced the field in the Leamington Handicap to seven, and Tryment, who was one of the outsiders, and was unlioppled, led from start to finish, despite the fact that one of the tyres of lier sulky became punctured during the running. Muriel Bond was most sought after, while there was support for Red Frontier and Proletarian. Star Pronto was slow to leave the mark, Tryment and General Sarsfield leading out, and passing the stands this pair were well clear of Muriel Bond, Red Frontier, Proletarian, Our Summer and Star Pronto, who was breaking. Along the back Tryment was about half a length in front of General Sarsfield, with Muriel Bond, Proletarian and Red Frontier well back. Proletarian, who was nearest the pair across the top, was twenty lengths away, and he was no closer to them at the home turn, while Our Sumnser was next. General Sarsfield, after attempting to come through on the rails in the straight, had to come on the outside, but Tryment stayed on too good for him and beat him by a couple of lengths. Star Pronto was ten lengths away, third, while two lengths bark came Our Summer, followed by Proletarian. ,
Scored Easily. Arapai and Social Pest were the only defections from the Cambridge Winter Trotting Handicap, the chief event of the day. Nervie's Last was the public fancy, but there was also money for King's Play and Winaway. Nervie's Last and King's Play were quickest to begin, and passing the stands they were attended by Winshow, Winaway, Ivewpie's Bond and Rockella, Luminate, who was slow to leave the mark, being last. Along'the back Nervie's Last had about a length's advantage of King's Play, with Winshow, Our McKinney and Winaway, who were racing in close formation, next. King's Play was first round the home turn from Nervie's Last, the pair being about 12 lengths ahead of Winshow and Winaway. King's Play stayed on to beat Nervie's Last by five lengths, with Winshow 10 lengths further back, half ,a' length in front of Winaway, who was followed by Our McKinney.
