Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Laing left for Honolulu to-day by tlie Mariposa. Sir George Elliot returned to Auckland this morning by train. W. A. Bouclier will leave for the South to-night by train. Mr. E. E. Vaile was a passenger for San Francisco by the Mariposa this afternoon. Mr. J. W. Heenan, Under-Secretary for Internal Affairs, is a guest at the Grand Hotel. Mr. H. E. Vaile returned to Auckland from Sydney by the Mariposa this morning. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Williamson and Miss Williamson, of Takapuna, left for America to-day by the Mariposa. Mr. and Mrs. T. H.Lowry, of Hawke's Bay, were passengers for San Francisco this afternoon by the Mariposa. The Hon. H. G. K. Mason, Minister of Justice, arrived in Auckland this morn- -» ing by train from Wellington. Mr. E. Casey, assistant-general manager of railway's, left for Wellington last night by the Limited express. ' Mr. J. Grierson was a returning passenger to Auckland by this morning's express from Wellington. Mr. Cecil Marks, Australasian general manager for United Artists, Ltd., arrived from Sydney this morning by the Mariposa. Mr. F. Beaumont' Smith, managing. director of the J. C. Williamson. Picture Corporation (N.Z.), Ltd., is a l|uest at the Grand Hotel. Dr. S. M. Lambert, director of health services in the South Pacific for the Rockefeller Foundation, left for Suva to-day by the Mariposa. Dr. C. L. Sheppard, formerly of Christchureh, has been appointed senior house surgeon at the Guest Hospital and Eye Infirmary, Dudley, England. The Rev. Richard Morgan, of Opotiki, has been appointed to act as an honorary child welfare officer under the Child Welfare Act. Mr. F. J. Ansell, North Island manager of the J. C. Williamson Picture Corporation, Ltd., will leave Auckland for the South to-morrow evening. Mr. E. H. Henderson is travelling to San Francisco by the Mariposa in the course of an extended tour on behalf of the Australian Broadcasting Commission. Mr. J. A. Lee, Parliamentary UnderSecretary to the Prime Minister, arrived at Auckland this morning by train from the South. The Hons. F. E. La?k, E. R. Davis, B. Martin, A. Burns, C. J. Carrington, J. Cotter and T. Bloodwortli, M.L.C.'s, arrived from Wellington this morning by the Limited express. Mr. H. P. Christmas, managing director in Sydney of Woolwortli's, Limited, arrived by tlie Mariposa this morning on a business and holiday visit. Mr. W. S. Robinson, a prominent raining executive in Australia, and Mrs. Robinson are through passengers on the Mariposa to the United States and London. Mr. S. S. Scott, managing director of Berlei (New Zealand), Limited, will leave for the South to-morrow evening on a brief business visit to the South Island. Messrs. W. P. Endean, R. Coulter, W. J. Jordan, F. W. Schramm, A. F. Moncur, A. C. A. Sexton, W. T. Anderton, A. S. Richards, and C. A.' Barrell, M.P.'s, were passengers from the South this morning by the Limited express. Mr. H. P. Griffin, assistant-general manager of the Texas Company (Aust.), Ltd., accompanied by Mrs. Griffin, left by the Mariposa from Auckland to-day for a holiday in America. Surgeon-Lieutenant A. C. Home, of Dunedin, has been appointed dental officer to H.M.S. Achilles on loan to the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy for three years. Mr. S. E. Calcott, recent editor of the \ 'Stratford Evening Post," left for Sydney yesterday en route to South Africa, where he intends to take up journalistic tvork. Mr. E. L. Wilcock, of Auckland, left by the Mariposa to-day en route to England. In the course of his holiday there le will meet his brother, Major L. Wil;ock, formerly of Auckland but in recent fears stationed in India. Sir Colin Fraser, an executive of Broken Hill, Proprietary, Limited, Svdlev, and Lady Fraser arrived in Auckarid by the Mariposa this morning. They will spend about a fortnight in the Dominion. The Rev. F. C. Andrews, who has been lelivering a series of lectures to the miversity students of Auckland under he auspices of the World Christian Student Federation, left for Suva this ifternoon by the Mariposa. He will re- _ urn to New Zealand in June in order o lecture to southern centres. Mr. M. J. McArtney, of the Palmerton North branch of the South British insurance Company, has received advice if his promotion to the position of oanager of the Wanganui branch of the ompany, and will leave at an early late to take up his new appointment, tfr. McArtney has been resident in Paluerston North for five and a half years.
