LOCAL BODIES.

ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council was ptesided over last night by the Mayor, Mr. J. Park.

Public Telephone.—The engineer of the Post and Telegraph Department adviseu that a recommendation for the establishrient of a.street telephone at the corner or i:jc-: fi .eld Road and Oranga Avenue had been submitted to the head office at Wellington for consideration with this year's estimates.

Sunday Concert. —Permission was gives to the Newton Silver Band to hold a concert in Jellicoe Park on a Sunday afternoon.

Assistant Town Clerk. —Mr. N. L. !Norman, accountant in the office, was appointed acting-town clerk during the absence of Mr. 11, A. Yockney, town clerk, who has been granted six months leave of absence.

Street Shelter.—An application from Mr. F. H. Searchfield for the erection by the council of a shelter over the seat adjoining the Anglican Church yard in Queen Street was referred to the councn in committee. The Mayor said the shelter asked for would have to be erected on church property and could not be done without the church's authority.

Beach Inspection.-—Sergeant S. A. Brown advised that instructions had been issued to constables to visit the beach and reserves on Sundays and holidays. '

Council Employees.—The acting-foreman reported that 2G men were employed on street subsidy work, 21 on the Waikaraka development scheme and 37 on No. 5 scheme.

Health Stamps—The Director-General of the Post Office wrote stating that as the result of the recent health stamp campaign the sum of £11,793 18/8 had been collected. He also submitted a balancesheet.
