CRUSADE.
By Helen Brookfield, Auckland. I
Wild and high my eager heart is beating. With tumult as of singing in my breast, Aspiring like tlte-gulls on splendid quest, That riding still, and ever faint and far, Salute iii ecstasy the morning star; . And worshipping the risen sun, are drowned In morning beams. On sandals-winged, my feet would fain be fleeting With the nomad wind in haunts of air Where' I would wander, free of tare; Linnet-throated and with flowers crowned— For who's to say I have not builded there . A tent of dreams! But I have much to win, to do and dare— And love is sweet and life divinely fair; And I would have the whole world glad with me— Warrior-bards that wage a white crusade, And, faith a shield, a»d truth a certain blade— Rule, my friend, their destiny.
