SAFETY ON THE HIGHWAY.
May I trespass on your valuable space to offer a few comments on the danger of travelling on the Great South Road? Some drastic action should be taken to deal with motorists for speeding, cutting corners and trying to pass other drivers at unreasonable times. Although there is a line in the middle of the road nearly all the way to Hamilton, I nave repeatedly* seen drivers travelling at a great pace cut right across that line on to their wrong side on corners. . Several times a head-on collision has nearly been caused through that; notably on the corner immediately after leaving Mercer, which is exceptionally dangerous. ißecent accidents are surely sufficient evidence of reckless driving, and I go so far as to say that right from Auckland to Hamilton people's lives are in jeopardy whilst proceeding along this road by motor or otherwise. Why wait until appalling loss of lit® has occurred before taking steps to ma "e people be reasonable in this respect? ' 1 LOOK OUT.
