(By Tele;,-rnpl>.—Parliamentary Reporter.! WELLINGTON, Thursday.
In the heat of debate. Ministers and ex-Ministers of the Crown arc not always too complimentary to one another. An instance of this fact cropped up in the House of Representatives to-day when the Employment Promotion Bill was under discussion.
Mr. S. G. Smith (National, New Plymouth) the former Minister of Employment, said the new Minister had referred to what the Department intended to do, not what the Minister intended to do.
The Hon. 11. T. Armstrong: Under the direction of the Minister.
Mr. Smith eaid that when he was Minister for Employment he was the Minister.
Mr. Armstrong: A rubber stamp.
Mr. Smith said that the only time he had seen a rubber stamp used was when communications came to him from an lion, gentleman sitting on the other side.
The Hon. P. Fraser: The Hon. Minister did not say you used a rubber stamp, he said you were a rubber stamp.
