PLUTO'S FINE RECORD.
CONTEST ON MONDAY EVENING. A programme which is worthy of the unstinted approbation of any boxing audience has been arranged by the Auckland Boxing Association, which, with commendable foresight, grasped the opportunity of securing the services of Cyril Pluto, welter-weight and middle-weight champion of West Australia, and matched him with Neville Mudgway, who recently made an impressive debut at the Auckland Town Hall by knocking out Jack McMahon. The bout will be staged at the Town Hall next Monday evening, when it will be the main attraction on a specially attractive programme.
Cyril Pluto brings to New Zealand an enviable record. To have defeated Billy Grime on points, driwn with Willard Brown, who is rated the fifth best welterweight in the world, and to have lost by only a small margin of points to Jack Carroll in a bout for the Australian championship, prove Pluto to be a boxer of remarkable ability. His record is punctuated with knock-oute against many well-performed boxers, including State champions, and his boxing ability has won him the respect of opponents and public alike. He is one of the best draw cards in Australia, and it can be taken for granted that, with Pluto on the programme, clever boxing and "honest-to-goodness" fighting will be seen. Mudgway made a big impression when he knocked out McMahon in Auckland last month, and his performance against Pluto will be watched with interest. The contest will allow comparisons to be drawn between the standard in Australia and New Zealand, and for this reason alone, without taking into consideration the ability of the opponents, should prove popular with local fight fans. The amateur programme brings together some hard-fighting local boxers, and special interest will attach to the teams' contest between Maori representatives and boxers from city gymnasiums. In all the programme is one of the best that has ever been offered, and should draw a packed house.
