RACING AT AVONDALE
THE AUTUMN MEETING. FIELDS FOR TO-MORROW. THE FORM DISCUSSED. The autumn meeting of the Avondale Jockey Club will open at Avondale to-morrow, and if the weather is fine there should be a large attendance. Good fields are engaged throughout and an interesting programme will be provided. The betting will be on the single pool system. The Opening Event. The programme will commence with the Rosebank Handicap, for which twenty-one are carded. Paso Robles ran two good races at Whangarei, running second in a five-furlong event and winning over six furlongs on the second day. He has been working well since then. Mainland was third in a six-furlong event at Takapuna and second to Sebrof over a similar distance at Pukekohe. Thangilamba and Sergia both finished second in divisions of the Trial Stakes, five furlongs, at Whangarei, while Cyllaros was third over a siimlar distance at Paeroa. The latter should be improved. Prince Abb ran well on the first day at Whangarei, while of the others Solas, who was third to Sebrof and Mainland at Pukekohe, Hunting Maid, Overdue and Heskertoon appear to be the best. The most fancied may be MAINLAND PASO ROBLES CYLLAROS. . , » The Jumpers. Prince of Orange, who is at the head of the Avondale Hurdle field, seems to be improving after his fourth at Ellerslie on Saturday. The Hiker ran two good races at Whangarei, winning on the first day and being beaten by King Mestor on the second. The latter is also engaged, and after his performance at Ellerslie on Monday in running second to Scotch Nation in the St. Helier's Hurdles he is likely to be in demand. Golden England was a winner over steeples at Paeroa, while Modern Maid scored over hurdles at Te Rapa and put up a good showing in the Brighton Hurdles. Victor Colima was third in the St. Helier's Hurdles at Ellerslie on Monday, while of the rest Benighted, Booklaw and Dark Princess appear the pick. A trio that may be fancied are
KING MESTOR MODERN MAID THE HIKER. The Titirangi Handicap. Adalene, who is at the head of the Titirangi Handicap, was placed second in the Islington Handicap, one mile, at Ellerslie. She ran quite a good race in the Easter Handicap to finish sixth. Miss Lu showed speed in the Islington Handicap, finishing well up. Roman Mascot was a winner at Pukekohe over seven furlongs and 22 yards, while Delrain ran two seconds over a mile at Whangarei and ran a fair race at Ellerslie on Monday. Light Comedy was second in the Great Northern Oaks and won over a mile at Ellerslie on the second day. Keith Lu was fourth in the Islington on the same day. Tuaheahe and Parquet are also not without prospects. The favourites may be LIGHT COMEDY ADALENE MISS LU. * ■ Tho Chief Event. The Foley Memorial is the chief event of the day. Flood Tide won the President's Handicap, one mile and a quarter, at Ellerslie on Saturday and was narrowly beaten by Greek Shepherd in the St. Leger on Monday. He will have friends if started. Nun Nicer failed at Ellerslie, but hag a Herries Memorial Cup to his credit at Te Aroha recently. Gay Rose showed up for a good way in the Nolan Handicap on the second day at Ellerslie, while Sinking Fund ran a good race in the Easter Handicap and can go a mile and a quarter. Knight of Australia won the Nolan Handicap at Ellerslie on Monday and should be improved, while Velocipede was successful in two mile and a quarter events at Whangarei. Gay Broney was second to him on the first day and worked well yesterday morning. Bonny Gay finished second to "Velocipede on the second day at Whangarei after winning the Ohinemun Cup. Galilee was fourth in the Oaks after being prominent all the way till tne straight. She is not without prospects. Of the others Grand Talk and Maine look the most promising. The best backed may be FLOOD TIDE KNIGHT OF AUSTRALIA SINKING FUND. The Oakley Handicap. Golden Blonde was successful at Paeroa, but she failed to jump away properly each day at Ellerslie. She is top-weight in the Oakley Handicap, but will have to begin better to have a chance. Karl won over this distance at Wellington and galloped well at Avondale yesterday. He will have support. Anion ran second to Black DTiar in the Victoria Handicap, six furlongs, at Ellerslie on Monday. He should be improved. Ned Cuttle won at Te Aroha and must he considered. Cheval de Volee scored at Franklin, but failed at Ellerslie. Philemup showed pace when he finished second at Paeroa, while Palustre was a winner at Whangarei, but failed at Ellerslie. Quadroon and Gay 1 her arc promising, and are the. most likely to effect a surprise. The bulk of the money may go on KARL ANION PHILEMUP. The Open Sprint. Rereatu is given pride of place in the Railway Handicap. He scored "well in a six-furlong event at Trentham, and after being prominent to the straight in the Easter Handicap won the Huia Handicap on Monday. Pakanui was third m that event, which was his only defeat in his last nine starts. He galloped well at Ellerslie yesterday. He now meets Rereatu on 61b better terms. Enge may find the distance a bit too short for him, but Epris, after his performances over sprint distances in the south, should go well. Crooning and Bellkyrian are both recent winners over the distance. Adalene has „ rjrior engagement, but if reserved for this race will have a show Tonnerre ran a great race in the Easter Handicap, being one of the leaders till well into the straight, eventually finishing fifth- He will he fancied. Of the others, Scotland Whirling, Princess Star and Lordly Knight seem the pick Three who may be best supported are TONNERRE PAKANUI CROONING.
The Whau Handicap. A dozen are carded for the Whan Handicap, run over a mile and Kinp Tut Vera Acre, Tutor, ie Jproney and Loombination have shown .good form over a middle distance, and I*tch l£il was successful over a mile at Whang , while Shy and Gay Sister have scored m sprint events. Shy may go bett field. Barograph worked well at Avonda yesterday. The favourites may VERA ACRE KING TUT TUTOR. The Chevalier Handicap.
One of the largest fields of the day is included in the Chevalier Handicap, and horses that have shown winning form recently are Wahine Reihi, Torch. Sebrof, Queen Nona, Valise. Lornacre, Supreme Court, Gay Sister. Dancing Lady. Daik Shadow, Tidalia, Hope _Lnss and Lady Voyonne. Fleetwind and Gallant Knight appeal most of the others. The bulk of the money may go on SEBROF LORNACRE VALISE.
