PRISONER SOON RECAPTURED
WARDER'S SUCCESSFUL CHASE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) NAPIER, this day.. Taking advantage of a moment when the attention of the warder was otherwise occupied, a prisoner at the Napier gaol, Richard Sullivan, who is awaiting trial on a charge of robbery with violence, escaped from capture by climbing over the prison wall.
Giving chase immediately, the warder caught the escapee 15 minutes later after a hard chase. A brief struggle ensued before Sullivan was returned to gaol.
There have been four escapes from the Napier gaol during the past two years, the most notable being that of Charles Price in April of last year, while h» wa* trial on a charge of murder, of which he was subsequently found guilty. In 1934 a Chinese named Yee Hing escaped and succeeded in evading capture for several months. Later a man named Joseph John Blennerhassett made his escape, but, like Sullivan, he was at large for a few minutes only, with police constables at Ma heels.
