NO REPRIEVE.

White Man to be Executed in New Guinea. MURDER OF TWO NATIVES. (Received 11 a.m.) CANBERRA, this day. The Federal Ministry decided to take no action to prevent the execution in New Guinea to-day of Ludwig Schmidt, sentenced for -the murder of two natives. Cabinet's reasons were later epitomised in the House of Representatives by Mr. W. M. Hughes, who said: "There is no other sentence but the death sentence that can satisfy the natives of New Guinea that they can get a fair deal."

Opposition members made vain appeals for a reprieve.
