POWER CHARGES IN WAIHI.
Sonic other districts may not want the electric power control nationalised where power charges are reasonable, but here in Wailii we pay 9Jd per unit less 2d discount for lighting and 4Ad less Id discount for heating. If there is any reason for two different charges, why, do other power boards have one rate for both power and lighting? We are controlled by the Thames Valley Electric Power Board, and, up till quite recently we were paying lOd per unit for lighting. I understand we are paying nearly the highest rate in New Zealand, and this "board has over 5000 consumers, corns pared with, say, the Franklin Power Board, which has about 3000 consumers and is one of the lowest as far as charges are concerned. The consumers here are no more scattered than in other country power board districts. Every New Zealander has lieiped to pay for Arapuni and the other large power plants, bo why should we all not get our power at a reasonable rate ? If we had the efficient management of other power boards we should now have the lowest charges of any other country power "board in New Zealand with this large number of consumers. J. F. ROBINSON.
