REREATU'S NEXT RACE.

A.R.C. EASTER HANDICAP. L. J. ELLIS ENGAGED. (By Telegraph—Spccial to "Star.")' CHRISTCHURCH, this day. A. S. Ellis has taken Nocturnus to Southland, where he will compete during the next few weeks. He will have his first race as a steeplechaser at the Bircliwood Hunt meeting on Saturday, and a week later will compete at Otautau, after which he will be ready for the Riverton nleeting. He is a highly promising, candidate for cross-country racing ' judging from his recent schooling efforts. L. J. Ellis will have a busy time at Easter. He intends to be present at the Auckland Racing Club's meeting on the Saturday and Monday, leaving Auckland on Monday night. He will travel by air from Palmerston North on Tuesday, arriving here in time to ride 011 the second day of the Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting. His rides at Ellerslie include Greek Shepherd, Rereatu, Inver, Maxown and Light Comedy. Apparently Rereatu will not be seen at Riccarton next month.

• Mr. J. M. Samson's yearling" filly, by Iliad from the Boniform mare Entre Nous, dam of Guarantee, is expected at Riccarton-next week to join J. S. Shaw's stable. She is a well-grown youngster, with prospects of being a good galloper. , H. Rama has experienced mixed luckj with his team lately. He brought his four' horses back to Riccarton in good order after his stay at New Brighton, where they did well on the beach. Two of them have been in the wars since their return to their regular training "quarters. Horowlienua cut one of his legs on the wire fence, while Free Air was the worse for wear after breaking away and galloping on tlie road. The bright side of the picture came at Oamaru, where Tooley Street won a double and Horotiu scored on the second day. Both are 011 the way to better deeds.
