MOBILISING PEACE.
INTERNATIONAL INTERESTS. (To the Editor.) Perhaps the League of Nations is soniewhat behind time in keeping pace with the unavoidable trend of armament in a world replete with all the inventions of destruction that it seems possible to imagine. In the talented hand of the humanity that has brought these terrible possibilities into existence there must surely he some means of checkmate to bring about the desired world peace. Unfortunately the machinery ig not yet in readiness; it will probably" take a generation or two to mobilise the world for the protection of peace, and in the meantime it seems there is little that can be done at this juncture in the face of another menace. The League must take a statistical assessment of the world's assets, as nearly as that can be done 011 a, rough estimate, each ration being accorded its proportional amount of responsibility in connection with war, should that ever he necessary to maintain peace. I would suggest that population, amount of territory owned and Budget figures could make a basis for calculation. Each nation should then be advised as to what is expected of it, whether it is a League member or not, and those nations who. do not elect to fight for peace should in all decency at least pay some of the cost. If constantly kept in touch with League developments, all nations would in time be drawn into the work. World peace is everybody's business. In the meantime, we of the British with our preponderating proportion of territory must be prepared to protect our ground in the interests of pcace. Every man under the flag should be training now.
