YACHT SUNK.

OFF MOTUIHI ISLAND.

COLLISION WITH A LAUNCH.

When homeward, bound from a cruise to Matiatia, Waiheke, on Sunday afternoon, the 20ft centreboard yacht Allies, owned by llr. Iv. Keid, of Otahuhu, was struck on her boom and rigging by the 35ft motor boat Romance 11., owned by Mr. Arlington, also of Otahuhu, but moored in Mechanics' Bay. The accident took place in the Motu;apu passage, near Motuihi Island. The launch had gone past the yaclit to leewar when the crew recognised'the other Otahuhu boat and turned back to speak to thrm. It was when again approaching the yacht that the accident occurred, the launch turning the yacht over and causing her to sink quickly, as she is a ballasted type of yacht. The crew were quickly taken on board the launch and the yacht's position buoyed by the help of a spare coir warp which floated off the cabin top. Salvage .operations were commenced yesterday by Messrs. Lidgard Bros., with the aid of one of the Auckland Launch and Tow Boat Company's launches, and the Allies was raised, pumped out and towed back to Auckland. An examination on Lidgard's slip this morning shows that the hull is undamaged, the injuries being confined to the spars and rigging.
