MADRID, March 15.
Rioting and acts of violence continue in Spain. A "sliock" guard was shot and two others were wounded in Madrid when rioters set fire to the convent of San Ignacio, which soon was a mass of flames. Nuns saved the nunnery of Santa Isabella from destruction.
The rioters also burned the church of San Ignacio and many valuable paintings and sculptures were destroyed. The firemen fought desperately to prevent the flames spreading to the Puerta del Sol. The police were greeted with a hail of bullets.
Serious rioting occurred early this morning in the town of Logrono. The riots followed a clash between Socialists and Fascists. Four churches, two convents, -a Catholic club and a Fascist club were burned down. One man was killed and six seriously wounded. Police and troops restored order.
Senor Jose de Rivera, the former dictator's son, and other members of the Fascist board of directors, including the famous airman, Julio Ruizalda. have been arrested for belonging to an illegal body.
A mob attempted to set fire to the office of the Roman Catholic newspaper "El Debate," but guards inside repulsed them with rifle fire.
