Mr. R. Pollock arrived from Wellington to-dav.

Sir Robert Anderson was a passangcr for Wellington by this afternoon's express.

Mr. G. A. Hiosam. of Sydney, arrived by the Mariposa on Saturday on a visit to Auckland.

Mr. A. E. Davy, of Wellington, returned to the South last evening by the Limited express.

The Hon. H. G. R. Mason, Minister of Justice, was a passenger for Wellington last evening by train.

Mr. H. A. Kinniburgh, of Waitoa, lias left on .an extended tour of Great Britain, Europe and America.

Mr. R. Jose, passenger representative at Auckland for the Matson Line, will leave for the South this evening by the Limited express.

Mr. J. Robertson left last night for Wellington, where he will attend a meeting of the directorate of the Mortgage Corporation.

Brigadier-General G. G. Stewart, of London, has returned to Auckland after a fishing trip to the Bay of Islands. He is at the Grand Hotel.

Mr. R. C'ridland, of Bristol, and Mr. A. E. Stock, of Christehurch, who have been staying at the Star Hotel, have left for the South by motor car.

Mr. J. E. Thomas, district officer of the Department of Industries and Commerce in Otago for the past seven months, has been transferred to Wellington.

Mr. Bruce Hope, who has been on the staff of the Public Trust Office at Christchurch for the past seven years, has received notice o 1 his appointment to the Gisborne branch.

Mr. R. J. Bullen, who has been on. the staff of the National Bank of Australasia, Napier, for the past six years, has been transferred to the Pukekohe branch. He left Napier to take up his new duties yesterday.

The Rev. T. Dent, of the Thames Methodist Church, who was previously announced to be leaving for Fiji to take up mission work under the Australian Board of Missions, has now been advised that the Australian Board has had to withdraw the position offered, owing to difficulties which have arisen in connection with overseas work. Mr. F. S. do Q. Cabot, formerly of Otago University, and now lecturer in psychology at Simmons College, Boston, has been awarded the degree, of doctor of philosophy by Harvard University. Before leaving for America, in 1930, Mr. Cabot played Rugby football for Otago, the South Island and New Zealand. He has since captained the Harvard Rugby team and has done much to promote the game in the eastern United States.
