When usiiig a cable cage over the flooded Karatuwhero River on Saturday, three people nearly lost their live-v A large log floating down the high flooa tipped the cage, and all three found themselves struggling in the turbulent stream. , , Mrs. A. Evans swam to the nanic, while Mr. Brown attempted to assist Mr. Clarke,; who could not swim. Mr. K. Crawford, aged about 20, saw trie; accident and dived 'fearlessly to Mr. Clarke's assistance, bringing him in ,to the land in an exhausted condition. • Mr. Clarke, "who lives alongside the river, is well known to hundreds cf motorists, whom he has assisted across the river with • bulloek teams.
