LOCAL BODIES.
NEW LYNN
An ordinary meeting of the New Lynn Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor (Mr. Geo. Lawson) presided, other members present being: Messrs. A. J. Jeffrey, Geo. Severne, A. Woolley, S. Hards, and C. Drury. .
Rate Collcotioiiß. — Tbe town clerk reported that vatefi collected up to tnc penalty date for the current year amounted t 0 £11,673 4/5, an increase of £2-258 5/10 compared with the same period of last vear. The council congratulated Mr. Cathie 011 the improvement shown.
Dogs.—The ranger reported that 185 collars had been issued with a revenue of £44 10/.
New Lynn Band.—An-appeal for financial assistance was received from the executive of the New Lynu Brass Band. A statement of its affairs was submitted, and the .band's ambitions stated. The council donated £0.
Memorial Museum. —The director of the ~nd War Memorial Museum intimated that the council's contribution towards the maintenance of the War Memorial Museum for the current year amounted to £75 0/2.
ONEHUNGA COUNCIL.
The deputy-Mayor, Mr. A. A. Coates, • presided at the meeting of the Onehungs > Borough Council last night. ' Finance—The district fund account has ' been, reduced by £6000 since the last meet- ' iiiß of the council, and now stands at 1 £9000 in debt. ' Subsidy on Kates.—The sum of £510 18/ " has been lodged in the bank to the credit ; of the council, in respect of 12% per cent . subsidy on rates levied on farming lands [in the borough. The deputy-Mayor , reported that the whole of this amount would be passed on, to the individual ratepayers who were entitled to the 12% i per cent subsidy. It meant, he said, that - the Government paid this subsidy instead > of the council. Manukau Electorate. —The council has ' been reappointed controlling local authoi rity for the Manukau electorate by the L Minister of Justice. Car Parking.—The parking by-laws for ' all motor vehicles are to be strictly ; enforced in Queen, Trafalgar, and Princes streets on Friday aud Saturday nights. Parking lights are £ 0 be erected in Church , Street East, Arthur Street West, and i Grey Street West. ; Gift of Land.—Mr. D. Conn offered to dedicate a strip of land 10 feet wide fronting his property in Harris Lane, and to round oft" the corners of the balance by 10 feet to Grey Street East, and 10 feet to Harris Lane. In accepting the offer : the council resolved to thank Mr. Conn for his generosity, and to pay the transfer fees on a proper survey plan being produced. Workers' Wages.—All men employed by the council on subsidised wages during the next six months arc to be paid at the staudard rate of 1/9 per hour. Twenty-six men are employed on subsidised street works, 20 on Waikaraka development work, and 40 on No. 5 scheme. Future Work.—The works committee will submit a programme of works for the next six weeks for consideration by the fianance committe with a view to placing the same before the Labour Department for approval. Memorial Museum.—The council's contribution towards the maintenance of the War Memoral Museum for the year ending 31/3/37 will be £267. Wet Rubbish.—By placing wet rubbish in their rubbish containers, which are of all .kinds and shapes and sizes,-, householders have caused difficulty at the destructor where the refuse is burned. The inspector will go round with the wagon when collecting to discover who were the offenders. Fireman at Theatre. —The council was asked to reconsider its decision that the uniformed fireman on duty at a local theatre be a member of the local fire j brigade. The letter containing this request [stated that the present fireman was a local resident, had been approved by the superintendent for fireman's duties, and was a man of estimable character. A deputation from the local fire brigade was heard by the council at a later stage of the meeting, and the matter was then referred to committee. Hospital Board Levy.—The council declined to support a suggestion of ths Auckland Suburban Local Bodies' Association that the council should 6eek a reduction in the levy to be made by the Hospital Board "for the ensuing year.
