BANANAS CHEAPER. PEACH SUPPLIES DWINDLING. Fruit sold 11101 c freely at the city markets to-day and values remained at last week's levels. Peach supplies will soon be finished now and local supplies of plums are over. Ripe bananas sold very cheaply, good fruit realising from 11/ ■ to 11/6 a case and second quality from 9/ to 10/ a case. Oranges are still selling at fairly low prices, and Gravenstein apples are now diminishing in quantity. Te Kauwliata grapes are beginning to arrive in good quantities. Quotations were: — Apples: Albany Beauty, 4/ to 7/ per case; Gravenstein, 3/ to 7/; Cox's Orange, 3/ to 7/6; Delicious, 2/ to 3/; cookers, 2/ to 4/; Munro, 2/6 to 3/. Pears: Packhams, 3/ to 4/; lion Chretien, Hawke's Bay, 5/6 to 7/; local, 2/6 to 5/6. Tomatoes: Outdoor, extra choice, smooth, 4/ to 5/; others, 2/ to 4/; Hutt, 3/ to 4/3. Oranges: Jamaican, 21/ to 23/. Lemons: Choice cured, 8/ to 12/; others, 3/ to 7/6. Bananas: Ripe, 9/ to 11/6. Grapes: Te Kauwliata, 8/ to 11/; hothouse, Hamburg, 5d to 9d per lb; Coleman, 9d to 1/; Moroc, 7%d to 10% d; Muscat, white, 1/. Peaches: Golden Queen, 3/ to 5/6 per case. Plums: Grand Duke, 5/6 to 7/. Nectarines: Choice, 6/ to 7/. Strawberries: Captain Cook,* extra choice, 1/4 per chip. Blackberries: 5d to 6d. Gooseberries: Cape, 4d to 5d per lb. Passion fruit: 2/ to 5/ per case. Figs: 2/6 to 4/. Quinces: 7/ to 9/. Coconuts: 15/ per sack. Vegetables. The market was very heavily supplied with onions, which it was almost impossible to sell. Heavy supplies of potatoes were available at. low rates, but the demand for Ohakune Sutton's Supreme was much keener. The market was well supplied with cabbage and cauliflower, prices for the most part being a little easier; Green peas were plentiful and the demand for good quality lines was keen. Pickling onions sold well. Quotations were: — Beet, 3d to 8d per dozen; celery, cooking, 6d to 9d per bundle; dessert, 1/ to 2/3; carrots, 4d to 1/ per dozen; cauliflowers, 4/6 to 7/ per sack;; cabbages, 2/6 to 5/6: on benches, 1/6 to 3/ per dozen; cucumbers, 1/ to 3/; French beans, 2/ to 4/ per bag; stringless, 4/ to 9/6; green peas, 4/ to 9/6; kumaras, l'/id to 2d per lb; locks, 2d to 3d per bundle; lettuce, 3/ to 6/ per case; marrows, 6d to 1/ per dozen; melons, water, 6d to 2/ each; rock, 2d to 9d; onions, 1/6 to 2/6 per bag; potatoes, 1/6 to 3/3; Ohakune Sutton's Supreme, 4/ to 4/3; pumpkins, 2/ to 4/6 per cwt; parsnips, 3d to 9d petdozen; radish, 6d to 9d; rhubarb, 1/ to 2/; spinach, J/6 to 2/; spring onions, 9d to 1/9 per bundle; swedes, 1/3 to 3/ per bag; turnips, 3d per dozen.

Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was heavy and the demand was very keen. The prices paid for most lines remained unchanged, but the price for old hens is inclined to rise. Selling rates were as follow:— Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime, 3/6 to 5/ each; not prime, 9d up; light breeds, prime, 1/6 to 3/; not prime, 6d up. Fat roosters: Heavy breeds, prime, 1/9 to 3/'; light breeds, 1/ to 1/9. Fat hens: Heavy breeds, 1/9 to 2/6; light breeds, 1/3 to 1/6. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best, 3/6 to 5/6; smaller, 1/6 up; light breeds, best, 3/6 to 5/6; smaller, 1/6 up. Drakes: Young, prime, 1/6 to 2/; smaller, 9d up; old, 1/ to 1/6. Ducks: Young, 3/ to 4/; old, 1/ to 1/6. Geese: 2/ to 4/. Turkeys: Hens, 3/6 to 5/6; gobblers, 6/ to 14/. Guinea fowls: 3/ to 3/6. Eggs and Butter. Hen eggs: A grade, 1/7% per dozen; B grade, 1/4%; C grade, 11 '/id. Duck eggs: j A grade, 1/6% per dozen; B grade, 1/5%; 1 C grade, 1/1%. Farmers' butter, 8d to 9%d per lb.
