RIGHTS OF VOTING.
LICENSING COMMITTEES
ELECTIONS TO-MORROW.
A good deal of interest is being taken in the forthcoming licensing committee elections, to be held to-morrow, interest centres chiefly in the city, where some 14 candidates are standing for five seats. The hotel employers are supporting a full ticket, the New Zealand Alliance has three nominations, and there are also a number of independents. Some misunderstanding has arisen as to the basis on which the poll is taken, according to Air. L. E. Falkner, secretary of the Alliance. Many people, he said, were under the impression that they were entitled to vote if on the municipal roll. The poll, however, is taken on a Parliamentary basis, and only those persons, for instance, whose names appear on the electoral rolls for Auckland Central, Auckland East and Auckland West are entitled to vote for the city licensing committee, the three electorates forming one licensing district. There will be no contests in Eden. Roskill, Orey Lynn and Auckland Suburbs, for no-license exists in these electorates.
