large gathering at FUNERAL. The esteem in which the late Mr. " Trevor Simpson, racing editor of the New Zealand Herald," was held was shown bv the large attendance at his funeral, which took place at Purewa Cemetery yesterday afternoon. A short service at Mr. Simpson's frjsidence, Benson Road, Remuera, and the service at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. P. Houghton, vicar of St. Mai k s Church. Xhe pall-bearers wer<s Messrs. H. Simpson, E. King, A. B Matthews, L. M. Horrocks, L. P. McManemin and H. Frascr. Among those who attended were Mr. W. R. Wilson, director of Messrs. Wilsou and Horton, Ltd.; Mr. R. M. Hackett, editor of the ."New Zealand Herald". Mr. J. M. Hardcastle, general manager; members of the staffs of all departments, Mr. C. Corner, chief stipendiary steward of the New Zealand Racing Conference; Mr. W. S. Spence, secictary of the Auckland Racing Club; Mr. J. Rawson (Avonrlale Jockey Club and Takapuna Jockey Club); Mr. W. J. Short, secretary of the Franklin Racing Club; Mr. D. Saxton, editor of tho " Taranaki Daily News," an 1 many of Mr. Simpson's journalistic colleagues from other newspapers. Wreaths were sent by the directors of Messrs. Wilson and Horton, tho editorial staffs of the "Hotakl" and "Weekly News," the proprietors and staff of tho "Taranaki Herald." tho Auckland racing Press gallery. Mr. W. S. Spence, secretary of the Auckland Racing Club, the Avondale Jockev Club, tie Takapuna Jockey Citib, the Franklin Racing Club and tho Auckland Trot tins' Club.
