RUBBER INDUSTRY.
DOMINION COMPANY'S YEAR. BETTER OUTLOOK. (By Telegraph.—Spccial to "Star.") DUXEDIN, this clay. In his report to shareholders at the annual meeting of the Dominion Kubber Company, Air. 11. Adam, chairman of directors, said that the crop harvested during the past year totalled 440,0001b, of which 373,5001b, representing 85 per cent of the output, was first grade. The total crop was obtained from 1028 acres, out of a total planted area of 1111 acres. The iinmaturo area, which was planted in 1934, totalled only 33 acres, while a further area of 53 acres had now matured, but had not yet been brought into tapping. The price obtained for rubber during the year was disappointing, Mr. Adam said. The average price was 4.90 d, against 5.37 d for the previous year. This was duo largely to a continued dullness in the market, owing to the consumption of rubber failing to improve. This state of affairs now appeared to have been overcome, and the latest advices were that the demand was becoming firmer and that accumulated world stocks were gradually being reduced. Between September, 1935, and February, 1936, stocks of rubber in London and Liverpool had fallen by approximately 20,000 tons. Since the commencement of the current financial year, a steady rise had been apparent in the selling price of rubber and there appeared at the moment no sign of this rise steadying.
