Gerard, was awarded the Military Cross for his conduct in the Great War. • • • • The diamond jubilee of Bcresford Street Congregational Church is to- be celebrated this month during the week Sunday, March 22, to Sunday March 29. • • • * Protestant clergymen and laymen in Mount Albert were among those present at the farewell social to Father MacGrath, who has been transferred to Island Bay, Wellington. A Catholic orphanage for girls has been opened in Christchurch. It is a two-storeyed building of reinforced concrete and stands in 10 acres of giound. The new chairman of the Congregational Assembly, which began its meetings this week in Dunedin, -is a wellkiiown* Christchurch layman, Mr. Henry St urge.
