LESS WORK.
To do less work may seem very bad advice to the housewife, who puts her duty to her house before everything else. There are lots of women who will sacrifice their own comfort and health, and even the comfort of their families, to their fetish for keeping their homes spotless, brightly polished and in perfect order. There is no excuse for dust and dirt and muddle, for crumbs in the kitchen and stale food in the larder, but between these two extremes the wise woman can steer a middle course. In very hot weather, especially, all unnecessary work should be avoided. The house will be cooler if the rooms are cleared of all unwanted articles; if heavy rugs are cleaned, rolled up m newspapers and stored away for a time, if ornaments are banished, and silver, brass and copper articles that nee r quent cleaning are hidden in a I board.
