Applicant must have as his motto, "Farming will do for me! "—Daily paper advertisement. Though thousands delight in the cities and towns, _ , Surrounded by villas and shops, The country's my fancy—the hills and th<downs, , The cows and the pigs and the crops. My favourite place is the wide open spaces— A farmer, untrammelled and free, And bringing the cream in the end of all schemin' — Yes, farming will do for me. Professional honours may have their allure in Medicine, Classics and Law; Degrees and diplomas may help to secure The "cultured" distinct from the "raw." These notable figures, these gowners and wiggers, Who measure their worth by tlioir fee. And what they took silk iu, are experts in milkin'. But farming will do for n:e. A. job in an office to many has charm, And merchandise has an appeal; But give me the 'business of running a farm And getting the best of a deal. What eqtials'a flutter in bacon or butter, Or landing the wool on the quay? With Labour advices of guaranteed prices ! Well—farming will do for me. For other employment in commerce or trade, And pleasing the eye of the boss With pen or with pencil, with hammer or spade. Or totting up profit or loss.
