FRENCHMAN'S REVOLVER.
MUST BE KEPT AT HOME. ' T" ... PARIS. There are- certain • provisions law just passed aboutthe arme p , cal leagues which will interfere t);e habits of quite !a number of inuULW class Frenchmen. It is naturally p sible to know how many ordinary private citizens habitually carry a levo > especially those whose business or pleasure brings them home late at 1 ' but the number must be consideia • Far greater is the number of those w keep a loaded revolver within reac 1 a home. ~, . Even under the new law the latter is rot made illegal. That is to say, keeping a revolver is authorised 011 condition that a declaration of it has been made to the proper authority. ,® cvc lf penalties are now imposed for taking 1 out' into the street, whether it has been declared or not. It is being indignantly suggested, therefore, that as most people will omit to make the declaration , a man who does no more than defend ins own property against a burglar may find that he has committed a crime, ana that the law is, consequently, giving a premium to burglary and to robbery 111 the street with violence. The tradition is not dead in France that it is \\ iser to keep an eye on one's own defence than to place too much reliance up the protection of the State.
