BAKER MISSING.

VAN ON RIVER BANK. FEARS OF DROWNING TRAGEDY. THAMES, this day. Mr. W. Montgomery, a well-known baker, of Ngatea, has been missing since yesterday morning. He went out with his delivery van as usual. The van was seen near Hopai wharf, on the Piako River, at 11 a.m., and at 2.30 p.m. it was still there, but there was no sign of Mr. Montgomery. A bag of money was found in the van. Mr. J. Darlington's launch searched the river all afternoon. Constable Clifford and other search parties are out to-day, but so far there is no trace of the missing man. It is feared he was drowned in the river, which was in flood.
