ATHLETICS.

PROVINCIAL TITLES. DARGAVILLE COMPETITORS. i The four athletes selected from the Dargaville Amateur Atliletie Club to compete at the Auckland Provincial Athletic championships on Saturday next at the Domain, may be expected to acquit themselves creditably. Miss Mary Mitchell, who will be defending the ladies' high and broad jump titles, which she won last year, has been registering good practice performances. Her marks in the broad jump have been regularly better than 16 feet, and she has been maintaining a good standard in the high jump and jaVelin throw. In training, Aliss Gwen Tremain has been concentrating upon the 80 yards low hurdles, and she will bo diflicult to beat in this event. On Monday evening she ran the course in 14 l-ss, which is substantially better than the winning time for the event at last year's championship meeting. Miss Tremain will compete also in the ladies' high jump and javelin throw. In the latter she secured third place last year. Mrs. W. McQueen has been nominated for the two ladies' sprints, 50 yards and 100 yards. She will encounter strong opposition in these classes, but she is revealing excellent form in training and her smartness off the mark should give her a good chance of success over the shorter distance. Only one nomination has been forwarded by the club' for the men's events, that of Logan Colmore-Wiiliams, for the javelin throw, and in his practice performances he lias been achieving throws of over 150 feet. This suggests that he may be expected at least to secure a place. Mr. H. H. Tonkin, a vicc-prpsident of the club, has been appointed manager of the team. OLD GRAMMARIANS' CLUB. EveDts to be held at the weekly points meeting of the Old Grammarians' Club on Tuesday evening: lOOjds, 4-10.vds, one mile, hammer throw, high jump, 120 yds hurdles, shot put. HIGH JUMP RECORD.
