PERSONAL.

Mr. H. Luke returned to Auckland from Wellington yesterday. Mr. R. Coulter, M.P. for Waikato, arrived in Auckland this morning by train. Mr. W. Russel-Wood, of Dunedin, left for the South last evening by the Limited express. Mr. J. P. O'Connor, president of the Auckland. Rotary Club, left for Christchurch last evening. Dr. ,H. G. Denham, of Christchurcli, arrived this morning from Wellington. He is accompanied by Mrs. Denham. Mr. E. T. Spidey, general superintendent of railway workshops, left for Wellington last night by the Limited express. The Rev. J. K. Archer, of Christchurcli, has been re-elected chairman of the Christchurcli Tramways Board, for his third consecutive term. Mr. E. C. Westwood, who lias been on a year's tour of Europe, and is now vjsiting Australia, will return to New Zealand on Monday by the Niagara. ' Mr. G. A. J. McNicol, after 40 years' service with the Commercial Bank of Australia, Limited, will retire at the end of this month because of ill health. Mf. C. J. McKenzie, Engineer-in-Chief to the Public Works Department, who has been seriously ill in the Greymouth Hospital, is reported to be in a much improved condition. Sir James Gunson, acting-chairman of the Railways Board, left for Wellington yesterday. He will attend a meeting of the board and return to Auckland on Friday. Mr. G. A. Lawrence, B.Sc., F.1.C., chairman of the New Zealand section of the Institute ■of Chemistry of Great Britain and Ireland, has left Wellington for Dunedin where he will attend the annual conference of the section. Mr. H. M. Campbell, former M.P. for Hawke's Bay, has recovered sufficiently from his recent breakdown to undertake a trip to England this winter. He will be accompanied by Mrs. Campbell, Mr. Ewan Campbell and Miss Mary Campbell, and expects to return to tlie Dominion in August or September. Colonel J. L. Sleeman, C.8.E., C.M.G., Chief Commissioner of the St. John Ambulance Brigade Overseas, who is touring New Zealand, left Napier for Palmerston' North this morning. Owing to the death of the King, Colonel Sleeman's itinerary had to be altered, and new arrangements for his Auckland visit have not been completed. He is to be tendered a reception by the Auckland Centre of the St. John Ambulance Association at the Lyceum Club room on Saturday, February 8.
