"DUM-DUM" BULLETS.

BRITISH FIRM'S DENIAL. PICTURES IN ITALIAN PAPER. Accusations that British cartridge firms have been supplying the Abyssinians with "dum-dum" bullets have been appearing in Italian papers. They are emphatically denied by the manufacturers referred to. The latest of the Italian allegations, which follows Abyssinian charges that the Italians themselves are using "dumdum" bullets, appears in the Rome "Lavora Fascista." Introducing pictures of a "dum-dum" bullet, and of an Eley Bros, label stated to belong to one of the packets found containing these bullets, a writer states: "Here is one of the. many cartridges made in England and abandoned by the Abyssinians at Dagnerei. The bullet has a hole at the top, and if it hits a man it tears his flesh. It is impossible to put forward the excuse that it was the-Abyssinians who adapted these cartridges." An official of Imperial Chemical Industries, who control the output of cartridges under the name of Eley Bros., said: "The charge is quite unfounded. We have not supplied the Abyssinians with either 'dum-dum' bullets or any other variety. Pictures of a bullet and of an Eley Bros, label cannot be considered evidence to the contrary. "Dum-dum bullets are used by elephant hunters, and it is just possible that the Abyssinians may have obtained possession of them by indirect methods. We have no means of pre--11 ideating them from fining so."
