FISH THAT SAIL.
(.Sent in by Nola Riley, Thames Street, Ohakune Junction; age 14.) The spotted swordlish or sail fish of tlio Indian Ocean is an example of a fish that sails as well as swims. A huge iin grows out from the upper side of its body, and the lish delights to bask at the surface with the (in fully expanded, and rising above the water. This serves as a line sail, by which its owner is carried along at a great rate. Some of the jellyfish are also in the habit of sailing. One known as the Portuguese man-of-war is provided with a huge float, which sticks out of the water and so offers a large surface for the wind to propel. (Copied.) •
