Mathieson (Ota<*o) broke the Austialian 400 metres backstroke swimming record by 30s. in 5.41 3-5, defeating X'oei Ryan (British Empire champion) and Hcrford (Australian half-mile champion). I Walter Jarvis (also of OtagoJ won the ;A r ictorian 100 yards free-style championship in 545, from the Queensland champion J Trimble and the Victorian champion Crawford.
