TEA REPORTS.
COLOMBO AND CALCUTTA. At the usual weekly sale of Ceylon tea held on the 21st instant the quantity offered came to a total of 3,000,0001b. Quality generally showed improvement with most grades being bright and useful. Quality of up-country sorts was particularly good. The result of the sale showed that commons and low mediums were rather easier, which was mainly due to the unusually large quantity of these grades being offered at this sale. Other sorts were in strong demand, and particularly where improved quality was noted grades were quoted at dearer rates. Actual price alterations showed a decline of V*d per lb on commons and price broken orange pekoes, %d per lb on plain 8.0.P.'e and an increase of Vsd per lb on first classic broken pekoes and %d per lb on fine broken orange pekoes. Next week's sale is expected to total 1.650,0001b. A report on the Calcutta sale dated 20th instant showed that the quantity offered amounted to 1,400,0001b. Quality was unchanged and the result of the sale showed that most grades were irregular and slightly easier.
