BABY BOY DROWNED.
TRAGIC END TO PLAY.
BODY FOUND BY SEARCHERS.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TE KUITI, this day. Playing on the banks of the Marigaokewa River, which flows through the middle of the town, Ramon Scott, aged three and a half, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Scott, of Te Kuiti, slipped into the stream about noon yesterday, and was drowned. It is believed that the child and ■another boy of about the same age had ben playing together for some time, when the latter's parents discovered the absence of the lkd Scott. In response to their inquiries the boy took them to the river bank and said Ramon had floated down the river. The marks where the child had slid into the water were seen.
A search was made along both banks and the body of the child was discovered by a resident, Mr. G. B. Johnson. It was caught on a snag about 350 yards downstream from where the child entered the water. Artificial respiration was applied and medical assistance was given by Dr. C. W. Isaac. It was estimated that the child's body had been in the river for nearly an hour.
