JUST "STIFFY."
THREE-LEGGED CAT.
WORKER AND HIS PET.
AUCKIiANDER RETURNS HOME.
"Stiffy," whose portrait appears on this page, is just an ordinary, wellbehaved cat as cats go, and Las just made the journey from the Waitaki hydro-electrical works in the South Island to find a future and comfortable home in sunny Auckland.
The owner of "Stiffy" is Mr. E. B. (Ted) Simkin, a veteran Public Works Department employee, who, after a long term of service in various parts of New Zealand, has come back to his home at Parnell.
On the Waitaki job Mr. Simkin was the veteran of the party, and he has been on Public Works and contracting jobs for the past fifty years. He worked for four years on the AucklandWestfield railway deviation, and he was engaged on tire Tamaki Drive construction work.
There were general regrets amongst the workers at Waitaki "when Mr. Simkin decided, to return north, and they will miss him greatly. He was a very loyal Aucklander down there, and his pride in hie home town was shared with hie three-legged friend, which has been a constant companion for some time.
Although "Stiffy" is a leg short, it post 17/fi freight ito bring him north to his new home, but Mr. Simkin would not leave him behind, and felt that the rat was well worthy of his fare.
Being of an amiable disposition, most of the time, "Stiffy" lived on harmonious terms with the many cats of Waitaki, and it is expected that he will find Auckland just as congenial as down below.
