TRACK GALLOPS.

TRIALS AT TRENTHAM.

CUDDLE'S RECENT EFFORTS.

A SMART HALF-MILE.

(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day.

On a track greatly benefited by ram, there was some brilliant galloping at Trenthani this morning. Cuddle gave a great exhibition over half a mile, her fina. trial before her departure for the North this afternoon. Might, Sunee, Nightlass and Darecourt also went particularly well. The work was done on the outside of the trial grass. Cuddle, with, S. Wilson in the saddle, was associated with After. Money (Vaughan), and without being kicked out she finished a good length in front « 48s. This is the best half mile that has been done for some time at Trentham. Yesterday Cuddle was sent a mile and a quarter the reverse way and she worked pleasingly in doing the distance in 2.12. This mare has improved steadily during the present week. Might enhanced his Manawatu Cup prospects by beating Princess Doreen by a length over a mile in 1.41 4-5, the last half in 50 2-ss. Princess Doreen was always doing it well, however, and was not disgraced. Sunee also pleased by comfortably beating Red Sun over a mile in 142 2-5, the last half m 51s Red Sun, of course, is not such a good trial mate as Princess Doreen. Nightlass went with Boomerang and Vinco, but shortly after beginning their five furlongs Vinco was tailed off and Nightlass went with Boomerang on his outer quarters all the way and drew out at the end to beat him by half a length in 1 1 4-5, the last half mile in 495. Nightlass comes in on the second day at I'uniDarecourt. who also does not race till the second day at the'Manawatu meeting, ran right away from Colenso and Going Gay over six furlongs in 1.15 4-5, the last half mile in 51s. Darecourt went very smoothly, but Going Gay is often not seen at her best on the tracks, i
