RINK SHOULD GO.
SKATING ON BEACH AREA, i
FEELIXG AT MISSION BAY.
Many residents of Mission Bay have itated that they will not be satisfied | ton if the Auckland City Council J Wdes to remove the open-air skating link on-the Selwyn Domain to a remote torner of the reserve, or even to private property. There w considerable feeling among residents at the possibility *' artificial noises being caused in the fcuburb by the existence of skating rinks, inerry.go-rounck and other forme of amusement, and some contend that the permit for the erection of the rink Should be cancelled even if the council is compelled to incur certain liabilities n connection with the matter. "There is keen resentment among the residents -of Mission Bay and adjoining Suburbs at the whole idea of the council granting licensee for merry-go-rounde, Skating- rinks and similar forms of amusement on the Selwyn Domain," said a resident who has closely allied himself *ith the protests that were submitted Jβ the council last evening ' concerning we rink. "The residents quite agree pat any member of the Auckland public isfrse to go to the beach and avail himself of the facilities-at the domain at any time, as it is his right to do so, but ™v bring in all these artificial noises ? . 'In recent years no suburb in Auck™d> perhaps, has developed to a greater went than Mission Bay, and a good vPe of home, paving fairly substantial rates, hae been erected there. Because w the tendency for the suburb to through, the introduction of Artificial noises, however, people are imitating about building there. If the «jy Council is anxious to choke off the rate revenue, it is going the right way « doing it. The residents feel that ">6 rink should not be allowed to remain sathe domain, and if it is they will have Y* take some concerted action in the Blatter. If the council has made a mis»Ke it should be prepared to pay for it."
