HOLIDAY CAMPS.
AWAY FROM CITY'S NOISE. HUNDREDS UNDER CANVAS. Next week should see hundreds of campers taking the sea air and revelling in the surf at. the numerous seaside resorts with which Auckland abounds. Apart from private camps several are being promoted by social organisations. The Y.M.C.A. camp at Hunua Falls is expected to have 150 boys under canvas daily during the holidays. This will be one of the largest camps in the North Island, and the boys will be under the charge of Mr. Geo. Adair, boys' work director at the- Y.M.C.A. . The Workers' Educational Association will also hold a camp at Hunua. The camp will open on the morning of Boxing Day, and up to the present over 70 people have intimated their intention of attending. Several prominent lecturers will give talks on various subjects, and the camp should prove both enjoyable and enlightening. At Oneroa Island the Auckland City Mission will open a camp on Friday next, and some 80 boys and girls will be present. These will remain on the Island till January 13, when they will return to Auckland and their place be taken by a second batch.
At Motuihi Island the Community Sunshine Association has a camp and is giving a real holiday treat to a large number of city children.
The teachers and Bible class leaders of the Presbyterian Church will hold a summer school in the grounds of St. Cuthbert's College, Epsom, from Boxing Day until the New Year. Some of those under canvas are coining from as far south as New Plymouth, and as far north as Mangonui. It is expected that there will be about 70 people under canvas.
